Best source for car ratings

Main Post:

So far I've been using USNews and Consumer Reports, but they'll sometimes offer up wildly different evaluations of the same vehicle. The most stark is the 2016 Hyndai Tuscon, which USNews ranks as best in class with a 9/10 and max reliability rating, and Consumer reports gives a 1/5 in both reliability and owner satisfaction. Are either of these sources worth looking at? Should either be taken with a grain of salt?

Top Comment: imo you should watch u/savagegeese reviews on YouTube. Incredible production value and he gets into a lot of the ins and outs of car interior and underbody that few others do. I think the biggest reason he doesn't get more love is because he has so many videos on 'average cars' instead of expensive exotics and that most manufacturers don't put him high on the list when giving out press cars because he doesn't just give them all rave reviews like most of the other guys with high subscribers and clicks.

Best site for used car ratings

Main Post:

I’m looking to buy a Toyota in the 2010 range, approx 100k miles; is there a site that rates the reliability of cars that old?

Top Comment: I’ve heard a lot of engineers talk about a website called true delta but personally I type in the year make model on google and spend ab hour or so reading all that. Biggest issue on that era Toyota, depending what you buy is sticky dash and oil consumption on Camry (at least non hybrids) I don’t know about issues with those.)

YT Channels that focus on used car reviews? (Recommendations please)

Main Post:

Speaking about YouTube here, I only know of ReDriven. Kind of surprising to be honest, seeing how dynamic the used car market is. And I don't mean those content creators would have to live with that car, I literally just want ReDriven, but more of it, or in other countries.

Some other languages are fine as well (German, French, Italian, Dutch, w/e).

Top Comment: Regular Car Reviews. They are humorous, incredibly informative, and drive allllll types of used cars.

What resources do you trust for reviews?

Main Post:

What’s the most unbiased, accurate source of reviews and info? Don’t want to make a decision based off of biased/paid promotions. Specific YouTube channels, CNET, Consumer Reports, anything else?

Top Comment: So I would preface this by saying all sources are going to have their own personal preferences and biases. This is a good thing because you’re also going to have your own preferences when buying a car. So it’s really more about finding reliable info you trust to inform your decision making process. I like Motormouth on YouTube. They do a couple car review, which is nice since auto journalism skews very male. They do a good job comparing the car in the context of other options in the market. I watch them with my wife and she enjoys the content. Disclaimer - they’re Canadian, I’m Canadian, so there are some differences from the American market (which they point out). For more traditional auto YouTube I like Savagegeese , but they skew more towards sports cars and fun stuff to drive. They do good technical breakdowns and are openly critical of bad points in cars. They do also do reviews of more “NPC” cars, but through the lens on an enthusiast. I’ll round it out with 2 more Canadian sources that churn out pretty fun content - StraightPipes and Throttle House . They’re definitely enthusiast skewed, but they are pretty fun.
